Happy Birthday and a Heimlich Maneuver

Guess Who is 2?

That's right our Bridge a Boo!

Not sure who is more excited about the present.

What could it be?

An American Girl Doll?!

McKenna, Girl of the Year, for our great girl.

"Be be, Be be"

Doing what she does best, play with hair.

Happy Family ready to eat cake.

Happy Birthday to You!

Yay, Cake!!

A pleasant, low key, stay at home birthday party for our girl.  Really, lots of fun and laughter.

Until....."Jerry, Jerry, SERIOUSLY, BRIDGIE IS CHOKING."

Not funny and we have it on tape.  Too much cake and stuck in her windpipe.  Started slowly, got some cake out, still breathing, then blue around the mouth and a bright red face.  I was in panic.  Which is what I do when it comes to my kids.  I get paralyzed.  While I ran for the phone and dialed 9 1....Jerry administered some version or other of the Heimlich Maneuver and we are very fortunate to report that he was successful.

Another reason to praise God for Jerry and our family.

Poor Erin was freaking out and literally running up and down the hallway as if she just wanted to go to her room and make it go away.  Not really sure what Eoin was doing but when all had calmed I saw him sitting at the table eating cake.

In all seriousness, we know better than to put something as large as a piece of cake on Bridgie's tray because she will just shove it all in her mouth at once.  However, it was her birthday and we were right there, right?
WRONG.
Not smart on our part. And will not happen again no matter how much I think she might enjoy it.

So, sorry for the downer attached to Bridgie's birthday post, but please take the 21 seconds to view this video on how to administer the Heimlich Maneuver to a child.

  4. Happy birthday to your beautiful 2 yr old!!

Scary about what happened though! So glad to hear everything was ok. Kayla choked like that one time...scariest thing ever to see your child's mouth open trying to breath and they can't..and their eyes getting bigger. It's an awful feeling. Give her extra hugs from Kayla!
